AFFECTED SEARCHES : 2.3% of English queries IMPACT by Google Algo Penguin2.0
Google has just recently pushed the new Google Algo and the most awaited SEARCH UPDATE: GOOGLE PENGUIN 2.0 which Google call.
What Matt Cutts says on his blog as under:
We started rolling out the next generation of the Penguin webspam algorithm this afternoon (May 22, 2013), and the rollout is now complete. About 2.3% of English-US queries are affected to the degree that a regular user might notice. The change has also finished rolling out for other languages world-wide. The scope of Penguin varies by language, e.g. languages with more webspam will see more impact.Matt Cutts - Penguin Spam Report
- Affects have been seen 2.3% of search.
- Many sites have been affected with Anchor text issues
- Sites which where ranking earlier on keywords have come down and sites which were not ranking on keywords have been ranking. Quite a reverse update

Here is the latest update about latest Search Rankings as of January 2013.
Google Page Layout Updates - October 2012
Tweets from MATT CUTTS: PAGE LAYOUT UPDATE
Minor weather report: Update of http://t.co/kcDiRUjclaunching today. ~0.7% of English queries noticeably affected.
Page Layout update is referred to as the “above the fold” update.
Sites which doesn't have much content “above-the-fold” can be affected by this change. So if you place more adds on top of the page rather than the actual content then this algo will be applied. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn’t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site’s initial screen real estate to ads, that’s not a very good user experience. Such sites may not rank as highly going forward.
solutions:
Newer place adds above the fold so that you can give users a better experience for what they are looking for.
Latest Google Algorithm: Penguin Algo Update
There has been widespread reports about the latest algorithm called "webspam update" which is now said to be called as the PENGUIN UPDATE.
I have found that many say this algo is a total failure as webspam update was released to fight webspam and spam sites to reduce rankings for such sites. But in the process many legitimate sites rankings have gone down or have vanised from the top 100 lists.
Other updates that had taken place in April:
April 19 - PANDA UPDATE 3.5
Domain Classifier update - MISTAKEN Update by google which google then clarified
Webspam update: Penguin Update : APRIL 24, 2012
Google's spam update has done much damage to legitimate sites than spam sites. I have also discovered that ecommerce sites are less hit by the udpate than the service sector sites.
Google Algo Penguin Updates Questions ?
- Is off page more important than on page ?
- Is backlinks from social bookmarking sites like folkd.com will be devalued? As many social sites have lost traffic during this update.
- Is Blog commenting termed as spam ? Does blog commenting from legitimate sites is also spam?
- Is Forum signature links completely dead
- If a website doesn't do SEO then also will a site rank ? ( Becz as per matt cutts he says that even if one doesn't do SEO then also its better)

Latest SEO Updates: Google PR, Algorithm Change - Google May Day Update
A) What is Google May Day Update?
According to Matt Cutts of Google said at Google I/O and confirmed
This is an algorithmic change in Google, looking for higher quality sites to surface for long tail queries. It went through vigorous testing and isn’t going to be rolled back.
Google said this was a change to the rankings algorithm and not a change to the indexing or crawling areas.
IMPACT:
- This does impact long-tail keywords, as covered almost a month ago
- Cutts says auto-generated pages and content farms tend to get hit the most by Mayday.
- His advice to webmasters affected by it, is basically to improve quality
- Stuff that's not available anywhere else can be helpful - stuff that's not duplicate or scraped or lower quality.
- Even Cutts says you shouldn't just focus on search engines.
According to FOX:
This change seems to have primarily impacted very large sites with “item” pages that don’t have many individual links into them, might be several clicks from the home page, and may not have substantial unique and value-added content on them. For instance, ecommerce sites often have this structure. The individual product pages are unlikely to attract external links and the majority of the content may be imported from a manufacturer database. Of course, as with any change that results in a traffic hit for some sites, other sites experience the opposite. Based on Matt’s comment at Google I/O, the pages that are now ranking well for these long tail queries are from “higher quality” sites (or perhaps are “higher quality” pages).
According to WebProNews spoke with Google's Matt Cutts at SMX Advanced, and he talked a little bit about Mayday, saying that it was designed to try and spot signals of quality on pages and sites that would be good for users.

Latest Google on Flash indexing!
Google has improved the performance of this Flash indexing algorithm by integrating Adobe's Flash Player technology.
Google has recently come up with Indexing flash sites.
- Google has the ability to index textual content in SWF files. This includes Flash "gadgets" such as buttons or menus, self-contained Flash websites, and everything in between.
- All of the text that users can see as they interact with your Flash file. If your website contains Flash, the textual content in your Flash files can be used when Google generates a snippet for your website. Also, the words that appear in your Flash files can be used to match query terms in Google searches.
- Google has developed an algorithm that explores Flash files in the same way that a person would, by clicking buttons, entering input, and so on. Google uses the algorithm's effectiveness which was improved by utilizing Adobe's new Searchable SWF library.
- If you prefer Google to ignore your less informative content, such as a "copyright" or "loading" message, consider replacing the text within an image, which will make it effectively invisible to us.
1. Googlebot does not execute some types of JavaScript. So if your web page loads a Flash file via JavaScript, Google may not be aware of that Flash file, in which case it will not be indexed.
2. Google do not attach content from external resources that are loaded by your Flash files. If your Flash file loads an HTML file, an XML file, another SWF file, etc., Google will separately index that resource, but it will not yet be considered to be part of the content in your Flash file.
3. Google would be able to index Flash in almost all of the languages found on the web, currently there are difficulties with Flash content written in bidirectional languages. Until this is fixed, we will be unable to index Hebrew language or Arabic language content from Flash files.
4) Google can't index FLV files, such as the videos that play on YouTube, because these files contain no text elements. If your Flash files only include images, we will not recognize or index any text that may appear in those images. Similarly, we do not generate any anchor text for Flash buttons which target some URL, but which have no associated text.
Non-textual content, such as images can't be indexed by Google
Now that Google has launched Flash indexing algorithm, web designers can expect improved visibility of their published Flash content, and you can expect to see better search results and snippets

Google Search Index March '08 Update!
The two data centers that appears to be shuffling around include:
- 72.14.207.104
- 64.233.183.104
1) Old sites that have done nothing wrong suddenly dropped out of Google's index around the end of February, early March
2) Cache data has been inaccurate and appallingly unrefreshed even though the index reports that new content and links are working.
3) New sites take excruciatingly long time frames to be indexed whereas up until late February/early March it was a fairly quick and painless process
4) Your index numbers don't agree in Webmaster Central
5) Site: queries don't match up with inurl: queries
6) Many site: and inurl: queries which normally fluctuate for large content sites became "frozen" and continued to report the same numbers every day for at least the last two weeks
7) Less relevant results have floated to the top of many queries because more relevant pages have either dropped out of the index or (temporarily) lost their inbound links
